Frequently Asked Questions
Your questions answered for clarity and assurance about my services.
What is equine massage and bodywork?
Equine massage and bodywork is a hands-on therapy designed to support your horse’s physical wellbeing. It works on the joints, muscles, soft tissues, and fascia to release tension, improve mobility, and promote relaxation. Each session is tailored to your horse’s individual needs, whether they are in regular work, recovering, or simply needing maintenance care.
What are the benefits?
Regular treatment can help to:
Reduce muscle tension and stiffness
Improve flexibility and range of movement
Support performance and recovery
Encourage relaxation and mental wellbeing
Help identify areas of discomfort early
How do I know if my horse needs treatment?
Common signs your horse may benefit include:
Stiffness or uneven movement
Changes in behaviour or attitude
Difficulty bending, flexing, or engaging
Sensitivity when grooming or saddling
Decline in performance
If you’re unsure, I’m happy to discuss your horse and advise.
What happens during a session?
Each session begins with an assessment of your horse’s posture, movement, and overall condition. Treatment is then carried out using a combination of massage and bodywork techniques, tailored to your horse. I will also provide feedback and aftercare advice to help you get the best results.
How long does a session take?
A typical session lasts between 45–60 minutes, depending on your horse’s needs and how they respond on the day.
Does my horse need to be seen by a vet first?
If your horse has a diagnosed condition, lameness, or injury, veterinary consent may be required before treatment. This ensures your horse receives safe and appropriate care.
How often should my horse have treatment?
This depends on your horse’s workload, age, and individual needs. Some horses benefit from regular maintenance sessions every 4–8 weeks, while others may need more frequent support initially.
Will my horse enjoy it?
Most horses find the treatment deeply relaxing and will show clear signs of release such as licking, chewing, yawning, or lowering their head. However, every horse is different, and sessions are always adapted to suit their comfort level.
Do I need to do anything before the appointment?
Please ensure your horse is:
Clean and dry
In a safe, quiet environment
Available at the agreed time
It’s also helpful if you can share any relevant history beforehand.
Is there any aftercare?
Yes. After treatment, your horse may benefit from:
24–48 hours of lighter work or rest
Access to water and turnout
Following any specific advice given during the session
What areas do you cover?
Silkstone, South Yorkshire and surrounding.
